There
are numbers of birds live in India. Around 2000 species of birds have been
spotted in our country. Many birds are beautiful by their appearance while some
are well-known for their sweet voice. Some are popular for their unique feature
like hunting and attacking. According to their food habits such birds can be herbivorous
and some are omnivorous. Many terrible prey birds are scavengers. But we are
discussing about the national bird of India in this blog article. Peacock is
the national bird of our country. How it became pride of our nation is a mystery
for public. In this article we
will reveal the myth and reality behind why peacock is our national bird.
Features of peacock
A peacock
is 2.5 meter long bird including its tail feathers.
A peacock
looks vibrant and attractive with blue, green and black designs on its feathers
and body.
It is
a vibrant colorful bird patterned eyes design on each feather.
There are
quills on its head depicts king like appearance.
It can
fly short distance as well as short height due to its heavy and long body
structure.
It has
two wings, two legs with strong claws, two eyes and one beak.
A peacock
diet on insects, small creatures, nuts, fruits etc.
Peacock
kills snakes and other poisonous insects.
It likes
black clouds and starts dancing when clouds prevail in the sky.
Its
sound does not attract much the viewers but generate terror in the heart of
snakes.
National bird
Since 1962
the peacock was awarded the crown of national bird of India. It represents our nation
as our national bird due to many factors. Its royal walk and appearance made it
pride of India. It also does not resemblance the national bird of other country.
This bird is found allover India due to support of its climate and environment.
The cozy forests of India are suitable for peacock to live comfortably. Many bird
reservoirs in our country like Jim corbet national park of Maharashtra, Gir
national park of Gujarat, Bharatpur Sikri of Madhyapradesh gives wide natural
residence to peacock. Apart from these peacocks can be seen in all states of
India.
Religious link
Five thousand years ago Lord Sri Krishna had taken incarnation on earth in India. He used to put on a feather of peacock on his crown which symbolizes love, victory and popularity. Many regional festivals like Danda Nach of Ganjam district of Odiash in India use such feathers while processing the worship. Some other Hindu festivals are incomplete without use of peacock feather.
Conclusion
It is
prohibited killing peacock according to animal protection act of India. Due to
which such bird can flourish all over our country. This is our duty to save
