Insert Tab:

Ms Word menu bar contains insert tab and this tab displays some command sets within ribbon like pages, Tables, Illustrations, Links, Header & Footer, Text and Symbols. Pages:

Ø Cover page: These are the fully predesigned pages used to create cover page of a document. You just fill the blank columns or place holders shown in page.

Ø Page Break: You can break the page from the current position of cursor on the page.

Tables:

Ø Insert Table: You can insert table specifying number of rows and columns you want in your table.

Ø Draw Table: You can draw a table using pencil tool as you want. You can design table sales according to your requirement. You can apply colourful border as well.

Ø Quick Table: There you can find predefined and predesigned table formats. You can insert one of those and fill the contents as you like.

Ø Excel Spread sheet: You can insert part of excel sheet in a table format and you can type data into it.  

 

Note: When you insert or draw table or select inserted table, you can see additional command tabs named “DESIGN” and “LAYOUT” on menu bar where you can find command sets to edit table. Use those tools to edit effectively inserted table.  

 

 

Illustrations:

Ø Picture: Under this option you can insert pictures from your computer to the open document. You can resize, and edit pictures with some limited features.

Ø Clip Art: These are the inbuilt sketches and images of computer. You can insert by searching from search bar.

Ø Shapes: Here you can find number of ready-made blank shapes (place holders) in different shapes like rectangle, square, oval, circle, stars, flowcharts, arrows, and many more, that you can insert on your document. These shapes are editable. That means you can colour it, resize it, and design it.

Ø SmartArt: There user can find diagrams, charts and graphs of all types that can be inserted as well as can be filled up with data in it. Also you can edit those smart arts slightly.

Ø Charts: Here, user can insert different types of charts according to suitablity of data. These charts can be of various category like pie, area, bar, column, line and stock etc.

Ø Screenshot: Using this command you can take screenshot of any page then crop it and insert wherever you want on your document. Press “Print Screen” key on your keyboard then paste it on Ms Paint file. Than crop or keep the original image and save it in png mode to insert in your document.      

 

Note: When you insert picture, clip art, shapes, smart art, chart and screen shot on your document, you can see additional command tab named “FORMAT” on menu bar, where you can find many command sets to edit inserted object as you wish.  

 

Links:

Ø Hyperlink: It is a type of link of text or image with a file, webpage or email address etc. inside the same document. Ctrl + K to insert hyper link. Follow the instructions to insert link.

Ø Book Mark: You can set name to a certain paragraph or portion of page or document using this command. Then you can access directly to that portion using book mark option whenever you want. For this purpose you have to select the name and click.

Ø Cross-Reference: It helps to insert reference between text and image, image and table, text and table, text and figure, heading and table etc. It is used for better explanation of anything else.

Header & Footer:

Ø Header: Using this command you can edit header position of a page. It means you can insert Text and Design it which will than appear in header position of each page of the same document. It is printable.

Ø Footer: Use this command to edit footer position of a page. Where you can place quotations, page numbers etc. And that will continuously appear in all subsequent pages of the same document. It is also printable.

Ø Page Number: You can insert serial page number starting from 1 to end page of the document. There are many formats of page number, you can choose that suits your page. They page numbers can be inserted on top, on bottom, and on margin of the page.

 

 

Note: Once you insert heard, footer and page number, you can see “DESIGN” tab that you can use to edit your text, image and number etc.

 

Text:

Ø Text Box: Using this command you can insert predesigned text boxes where you can type your contents and edit it.

Ø Quick Parts: You can use this command to insert reusable contents like Auto texts, fields etc.

Ø WordArt: Using this command you can insert decorative text on your page as well as you can edit it as you like. After inserting WordArt, you will be prompt “Format” tab where you can find number of command to edit your text inside WordArt text box.

Ø Drop Cap: It helps to create a large capital letter at the beginning of a paragraph. It should be the first letter of first row in a paragraph. You can increase the size of Capital letter up to covering height of two to three or more lines. But it should look attractive, keep in mind. These are specially used in News Paper and Magazines to attract attention of reader.

Ø Signature Line: You can insert a blank signature line with the designation of the person just below it.

Ø Date & Time: Use this command to insert current date and time at the cursor position.

Ø Object: you can insert OLE object like image or text file from any source of your computer directly to the cursor position.

 

Symbols:

ØEquations: Insert common mathematical equations and write your own equation and make necessary changes as well. It covers wide range of equations that is almost used in mathematics.

ØSymbols: Insert special symbols that do not appear on your keyboard. Like copyright symbol, trademark symbol etc.
